How to Recover from IB Burnout (Without Feeling Guilty)

IB burnout is real. Months of pressure, lack of sleep, and performance anxiety take a toll — even after exams are done. Here's how to recharge your mind and body without guilt.

🧠 1. Recognize It's Real

Burnout isn't laziness — it's your brain saying "enough."

Symptoms include constant tiredness, irritability, or loss of motivation.

Step one is acceptance, not denial.

🌙 2. Rest Like You Mean It

Rest isn't just sleeping. It's turning off performance mode.

Try:

  • A full day with no academic content
  • Going offline for 24 hours
  • Taking quiet walks or naps without pressure to "be productive"

You're not wasting time — you're refueling.

🧩 3. Reflect on What Caused It

Was it perfectionism? Overcommitment? Procrastination?

Naming the cause helps prevent it next semester.

☀️ 4. Rebuild Slowly

Don't jump into 8-hour study days. Start small:

  • 30 minutes of light review
  • 10 minutes of journaling
  • 1 focus task per day

Momentum > intensity.
